The hybrid games console was announced on 20th October via YouTube, the video of which has already 9,196,751 views. The device will be a hybrid cross between a handheld device with detachable controllers and an at-home dock, which you can plug into your TV and insert games cartridges into.
Here’s what Nintendo has to say about the Switch:
“Introducing Nintendo Switch! In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.”
And here’s everything you need to know about the new gaming device:
Release Date
Nintendo has set an official release window of March 2017, which means you’ll have to wait a little while longer to play Super Mario Cart on this awesome device. It’s Portable
That’s a given really. Nintendo has combined at home and on the go gaming with a portable device that can be plugged into the gamer’s TV screen. With a few changes, the device can be switched to portable mode and has a kickstand for support, so you can play without actually holding the device.New Controllers
Nintendo has included two detachable joysticks, which can be used as regular game controllers, but can also be detached and used separately by multiple players. They can also be used as two hand controllers by one player, like the Wii. Nintendo likes to call them ‘Joy-Cons’.You can also insert the Joy-Cons into what’s called a Joy-Con Grip to create a controller that’s shaped more like a traditional gamepad.
The question is, will Nintendo make its console touch screen, which it has been doing in recent years. There’s nothing to suggest a touch screen function from the video release.
That Screen
The Nintendo Switch now comes with a 7-inch screen, which looks to be heavily influenced by mobile and tablet screens. Image quality also appears to be on point! It Uses SD Cartridges
Judging by the teaser video, gamers will be able to carry games cartridges around with them, very much like the old school Nintendo consoles, Gameboy, but on a much smaller scale than ever before. The Return of Zelda And Other Classics
It looks like Ninentdo are staying loyal to their fans and have brought back a bunch of familiar faces when it comes to game choice. Games that appear in the trailer include: Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon, as well as new games, including: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and 3D Super Mario. At present, Ninendo are receiving support from a number of big-name game developers, including, Electronic Arts, Sega and UBISOFT.
