Woman allegedly killed by her son in Colorado Springs was beaten, stabbed

A 54-year-old Colorado Springs woman allegedly killed by her son last week had been beaten and stabbed, authorities said Monday.
Virginia Lee Hampton’s body was found Thursday by officers called out to conduct a welfare check on the 900 block of Mt. Werner Circle.
Police say the El Paso County coroner’s office ruled her death a homicide. Authorities said she had “traumatic” injuries.
The Gazette reports that investigators wrote in an arrest affidavit that Hampton possibly had been beaten with a small fire extinguisher.
Hampton’s son, 24-year-old Dennie Duece Weaver, 24, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder in the case. He is being held without bond at the El Paso County jail, records show.
